Alphonse Beauchamps was an old Maine hunting and fishing guide. He knew just about everything there was to know about bears. Still, the bears could always surprise him. One night three of them come to his cabin on the banks of Pocomoonshine Lake. Before they left, they each helped themselves to one of his possessions. The papa bear took a fishing hook and the mama a box of salt. But it was baby bear's choice that puzzled him most. What in the world would a bear want with a Sears and Roebuck mail order catalog?

My influence runs far and wide and deep. Let me go and I'll grant your every wish. Just tell me what you want or need." The fisherman wasn't sure he needed a thing besides a catfish dinner, but his wife had other ideas...
