A Few of My Favorite Quotes: “I have nothing to say, and I am saying it, and that is poetry.” John Cage, Composer “If you don’t live it, it won't come out of your horn.” Charlie Bird Parker, Musician “I just put my feet in the air and move them around.” Fred Astaire, Dancer "They've a temper, some of them-- particularly verbs: they're the proudest. Adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs." Lewis Carroll, writer “And it came to pass--not to stay.” Buckminster Fuller, Architect |
I am a writer of both fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults. I’m especially interested in history and have written on subjects ranging from the ancient Aztecs to contemporary American architecture. My picture books include Ben and the Emancipation Proclamation and The Sun’s Daughter. You can find out more about them, and my other books, via the links above. I also have a few stories on this site for your reading pleasure. Some are based on folklore, myths, and legends. Others are based on the the lives of real people. I'll be adding to my stock of online stories as time goes on, so stay tuned. I love to hear from visitors, so please don't hesitate to leave a comment on my blog or get in touch with me via my contact page. For the past several years I've lived in the super-historic city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, where I teach creative writing to adults. You can find out more about my writing courses at Writing Picture Books for Children. In my earlier life I worked as an archivist for a number of museums and libraries. In my old(er) age, I still like to haunt museums and libraries whenever possible. Thanks for dropping by, Pat Sherman |
