I am a writer of both fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults. I’m especially interested in history and have written on subjects ranging from the ancient Aztecs to contemporary American architecture. My picture books include Ben and the Emancipation Proclamation and The Sun’s Daughter. You can find out more about them, and about my other books, via the links above. If you want to read some stories in the here and now, click on Storytime. I'll be adding to my stock of online stories as time goes on, so stay tuned.
I like to share what I'm reading and writing so please visit my Blue Frog Blog to learn about curious things or to read an occasional book review on some of my favorite works of history and historical fiction. I've also become something of an architecture maven. If you're interested in some cool buildings please visit my other blog, Cool Building of the Week. I love to hear from visitors, so please don't hesitate to leave a comment on my blogs or get in touch with me via my contact page.
For the past several years I've lived in the super-historic city of Cambridge, Ma. where I teach creative writing to adults. You can find out more about my course at my Writing Picture Books site. In my earlier life I worked as an archivist for a number of museums and libraries. In my old(er) age, I still like to haunt museums and libraries whenever possible.
